Sensor for determining soil moisture.
The theta probe works according to the principle of frequency domain reflectometry and determines the volumetric water content based on the change in the dielectric constant of the soil. To do this, a standing wave is generated at a frequency of 100 MHz, the amplitude attenuation of which correlates with the soil water content.
The frequency of 100MHz makes the sensor insensitive to changes in soil temperature and salinity.
Improvements to the Theta ML2 probe:
- soil moisture measurement with +/- 1% accuracy
- integrated temperature sensor
- M12 connector
- new, white housing for less heating due to solar radiation
- Improved calibration for use under saline conditions
